TFWATH País 2022

My second go with país (after making one with Roberto Henriquéz in Bío-Bío in 2019), this one made with Nacho Pino in Itata. It's a fresh, chillable red with the addition of a small amount of aromatic torontel (in the muscat family).

The grapes were sourced from very old vines from coastal vineyards in the Itata Valley sub-regions of Trehuaco (país) and Coelemu (torontel); in both cases, dryfarmed, ungrafted bush vines planted on steep granite slopes. 

The país underwent semi-carbonic fermentation with light extraction. It was matured in steel tank for about 10 months. The torontel was fermented with skins and matured in a single tinaja (amphora), also for about 10 months. After maturation the two were blended and bottled with a small addition of sulphur. The wine remained in bottle for eight months before release.  

1,200 bottles made.

Tasting note: a refreshing and finely structured red. Sappy red fruits with hints of lavender, violet and thyme, fine tannins and a supple, mouth-watering minerality.  

ABV: 12.5%

Organically farmed grapes. Suitable for vegetarians and vegan.
